Piano Audition Assessment

Prepare for your Piano Competitions and Auditions with MTNA Nationally Certified Teacher. This is a professional level review and assessment of the music performance skills for students who have been studying classical piano for years and have piano competitions and auditions as their learning goal.

  • Interested parties without music backgrounds may also use the report to understand the current level of the student.

A comprehensive report:

Three demonstration videos:

  • One for Scales and Arpeggios
  • Two for Contrasting Pieces

Important points needing improvement will be highlighted.

How much does this evaluation cost?

Option 1: Free Trial

Cost: $0

Description: The student will receive the free evaluation service in the order the application is received. However, students interested in the “free trial” option will be placed on a waiting list after the students choosing the “paid priority” option.

Option 2: Paid Priority

Cost: $299

Description: No Wait!! Students seeking the “paid priority” option have the priority to receive the evaluations before the students seeking the “free trial” option.

How to apply for this evaluation?


The parent/guardian needs to reply to the following questions and email to: info@InnerArtofMusic.com

  • Are you the parent or legal guardian of the student? (e.g., yes/no)
  • How should we address you? (e.g., Mr. or Mrs. Smith)
  • How old is the student at this time? (e.g., 15 years old)
  • How many years has the student been studying piano? (e.g., 8 years)
  • Please list two contrasting pieces for evaluation. (e.g., J. S. Bach: Prelude and Fugue in A-flat major BWV 862; Chopin: Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op. 23)
  • What is your preferred phone number and time for us to contact you for verification?

  • Scales

The evaluator will randomly pick one major key and one minor key (harmonic minor) from Scales and notify the student several weeks before the evaluation. The student needs to play the selected scales in four octaves of parallel motion, contrary motion, third apart, and sixth apart.

  • Arpeggios

The evaluator will randomly pick one major key and one minor key from Arpeggios and notify the student several weeks before the evaluation. The student needs to play the selected arpeggios in four octaves of parallel motion, contrary motion, dominant seventh, and diminished seventh.

All 24 major and minor keys.

  • Piece1 and Piece2

The student may choose two contrasting pieces from followings, but the two pieces must be selected from different periods and composers.

Baroque J.S. Bach (excluding the two-part inventions)
Classical fast movement sonata by Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven
19th/20th Century Chopin, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Ravel, and Prokofiev

Note: Inner Art of Music reserves all the rights to establish the criteria for qualification and may adjust said criteria at any time without notice.

Once the student passes the qualification, the parent/guardian will receive a confirmation number in order to be placed on a waiting list.

Note: The paid students have priority over the students seeking the “free trial” option.

The parent/guardian will receive a notice several weeks before the evaluation. A confirmation from the parent/guardian, by email, is necessary for the process to begin. Once confirmed, a detailed application package will be sent to the parents/guardian via email. The package includes the agreement, consent form and instructions for taking quality video recordings, etc.

Note: Please follow the instructions and return the required materials as soon as possible. If the student’s confirmation or reply is not received within 5 days, this evaluation will be cancelled.

Once the completed paperwork is received, instructions for students to upload their video recordings will be sent to the parent/guardian via email.

Note: Once the student’s video recordings are received, the final report will be ready within 14 days.

Congratulations! Once the report is finished, it will be sent to the parent/guardian via email. Then the 45-min consultation will be scheduled.

Note: Please read the report carefully and make a list of questions for the evaluator in the consultation.
