As an adult student going in with the barest of knowledge about piano, my primary goal with lessons was to strengthen my foundational technique and understanding and make sure I started off on solid footing. In 6 months of lessons with Dr. Xu thus far, I can say that my expectations have been exceeded. From the very first lesson, I felt that her instruction was clear and concise, with a focus on laying a groundwork of strong fundamentals and understanding of theory, before expanding into building out a repertoire. Early focus includes ensuring good posture when playing, and learning elementary scales, chords, and arpeggios. In addition to this strong early instruction, Dr. Xu's critique and feedback is very consistent and precise, allowing me to quickly identify the gaps in my technique, and know which areas to focus on for improvement.
